Our Mission

The IGNITE life Challenge seeks to inspire human ingenuity and innovations to improve the ‘Quality of Life’ of communities at the local level.

Ignite realizes its mission by funding research to spur ‘out of the box’ solutions that are simple and directly usable for the purpose of improving general living conditions. Such approaches may leverage new or existing technologies. We provide research grants to demonstrate proof of concept for innovative indigenous technologies that address problems associated with Ignite’s Focus Areas.

Ignite seeks to address problems faced by village and slum communities, such as access to clean water, sanitation, infectious diseases, lack of toilets (open defecation), general cleanliness, reliable electric power and more. Across India, cities suffer from poor drainage, polluted rivers and air from industrial waste and ever-increasing vehicular traffic, resulting in quality of life problems for less resilient communities.

Large scale projects are generally expensive and time consuming. Through the Ignite Life Challenge we seek to spur innovative solutions to problems in communities at a smaller scale.
