Ignite will accept proposals directed at solving any one ‘Quality of Life’ issue in a community, or just a small part of a big problem (one example would be removing or neutralizing one pollutant of many at its source).
Approach
Address problems associated with quality of life issues at the local level
Inspire generation of new ideas to find a local solution to a defined problem
Provide motivation for ‘OUT OF BOX’ thinking to develop solutions through research
Encourage use of indigenous resources borrowing ideas from nature
Find solutions that are affordable and acceptable to the community
May apply existing technologies
Eligibility
Applicants may be students or faculty in a technical institution OR anyone qualified to conduct research in improving some aspect of a ‘Quality of Life’ issue affecting the intended users.
Criteria
Applicant must be sponsored by an recognized organization, for example, an educational institution, an NGO or any entity that has FCRA approval from the government of India (i.e. authorization to receive grant in dollars)
Board of Directors will review the applications and decide upon grants.
Applicants may be contacted to seek clarification, if necessary
Successful candidates will be advised of any applicable terms and/or conditions
Decision of the Board will be final and binding
Applicants will be required to submit periodic progress report (s)
Review process
GRANTS
Ignite will provide grants to prove feasibility of a concept through research.
Grant will include:
Cost of materials needed for research
Expenses related to outsourced lab tests
Outsourced labor, if required
Other costs may be considered based on the type of research
Grant amounts are not fixed and will be determined based on the complexity of the research, type of problem being addressed, and the impact of the application. Grants will be in US dollars: equivalent amounts may be anywhere from tens of thousands of Rupees to tens of lac of Rupees or higher. There is no minimum.
Ignite will not reimburse:
Salaries and living benefits; personal time of applicants may be considered
Use of existing lab facilities accessible to applicant at his/her institution
Project implementation, marketing or production facility
However, Ignite will connect applicants, with proven research concept, with appropriate organizations most likely to fund implementation of the project.
